The port setting is best left blank, in which case the default smtp port is used. This works well for over 95% of clients.

The port setting was introduced in 3.27G after a client could send external emails, but when being sent to addresses on the client's own domain ( employee@client.co.nz ) Mail Marshall blocked the emails. It was resolved by setting the port to 97.

Note the handling of emails being sent to an invalid email address differs depending on the sender's Internet Service Provider (ISP).

Paradise reports sending the email successfully, then bounces the email back to the sender.

Xtra does not send the email, and reports an error.

Lotus Notes is well known for not being able to correctly read HTML emails. A Google search for "lotus notes email format" produces over a million hits.

It is unlikely that Ace Payroll HTML emails are correctly displayed in Lotus Notes.

Lotus Notes uses a sort of proprietry format for HTML email, which is different from the usually recognised format.

Ace Payroll emails payslips in both plain text and HTML, within the same email.

The solution for clients using Lotus Notes is to either read them in plain text, or alternatively read them in a standards compliant browser.

Please note that Ace Payroll has no knowledge of, and thus cannot assist with, the settings in Lotus Notes.
