Alan graduated from Victoria University in 1990. His first job was as a Legal Officer in the Labour Court. He continued in this
position when it became the Employment Court on the passing of the Employment Contracts Act in 1991. During the period, he was seconded to the Legal Section of the Department of Labour for 6 months to work on the Employment Court and Tribunal
Regulations, amongst other things. He was a solicitor for the Service Workers Union from 1992 until 1994.
He joined Cullen & Co (a Wellington firm specialising in employment law) in 1994 and remained there till 1997. He then joined another Wellington law firm, Oakley Moran. He left Oakley Moran in October 1998 to set up as a sole practitioner
specialising in employment law. He currently acts for both employers and employees in respect of employment matters,
including personal grievances, wage claims, ACC claims ( including under the new Accident Insurance Act, drafting and negotiating of employment contracts, and general dispute resolution. He also sets up incorporated companies.
